What does the competition actually test?

Several distinct skills, not just a written exam In the published championship format, Round 1 is 50 questions on the factual and conceptual foundations of neuroscience, worth 50 of the 100 points Round 2A is 25 questions at stations with human brain material, histology slides and MRI — 25 points.

Round 2B is 25 multiple-choice questions on clinical and scientific reasoning — another 25 points The top 10-12 competitors then go into a live, jeopardy-style final where you write each answer inside a minute and are eliminated after two misses So the book gets you half the points; identifying real material and reasoning clinically gets you the other half, and the title is decided out loud.
