Cell Biology spans four NCERT chapters contributing 10-12 marks to NEET: Cell: The Unit of Life, Biomolecules, Cell Cycle, and Cell Division. Effective notes for this unit must balance structural details with functional understanding. For the plasma membrane, notes should cover the fluid mosaic model with its phospholipid bilayer, integral and peripheral proteins, cholesterol for fluidity regulation, and glycocalyx for cell recognition. Each organelle entry should include structure, function, and distinguishing features: mitochondria with double membrane and cristae producing ATP through oxidative phosphorylation, chloroplasts with thylakoid stacks for photosynthesis, and the endoplasmic reticulum connecting the nuclear envelope to the plasma membrane. The cell cycle section requires phase-by-phase notes: G1 (cell growth), S (DNA synthesis), G2 (preparation for division), and M-phase (mitosis with prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase followed by cytokinesis).
Cell Biology is one of the most diagram-intensive topics in NEET, with questions frequently presenting labelled or unlabelled cell diagrams and asking for identification or function of specific structures. Students must be able to draw and label the ultrastructure of a mitochondrion showing the outer membrane, inner membrane with cristae, matrix, and F0-F1 particles. The fluid mosaic model diagram should show the phospholipid bilayer with hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails, integral proteins spanning the membrane, peripheral proteins on the surface, and cholesterol molecules interspersed between phospholipids. Cell division diagrams must show chromosome behaviour at each stage: chromosome condensation in prophase, alignment at the metaphase plate, centromere splitting in anaphase, and nuclear envelope reformation in telophase. Our notes include step-by-step diagram drawing guides that enable students to reproduce these figures accurately under exam conditions.
