Plant Physiology is a high-scoring unit requiring notes that clearly map out biochemical pathways with enzyme names and energy currency at each step. For photosynthesis, the light reactions in the thylakoid membrane involve two photosystems: PS II (P680, splits water, releases O2) and PS I (P700, reduces NADP+ to NADPH). Non-cyclic photophosphorylation produces both ATP and NADPH, while cyclic photophosphorylation (involving only PS I) produces only ATP. The Calvin cycle in the stroma fixes CO2 using RuBisCO into a 3-carbon compound (3-PGA), which is reduced to G3P using ATP and NADPH, and regenerated through complex sugar rearrangements. For respiration, glycolysis in the cytoplasm converts glucose to two pyruvate molecules yielding 2 ATP and 2 NADH. The Krebs cycle in the mitochondrial matrix produces 2 ATP, 6 NADH, and 2 FADH2 per glucose. The electron transport chain converts NADH and FADH2 into approximately 34 ATP through chemiosmosis.
Mineral Nutrition requires notes organised as element tables listing each essential element, its classification (macro or micro), its specific physiological role, and its deficiency symptoms. Nitrogen is a macronutrient component of amino acids and nucleic acids, and its deficiency causes chlorosis in older leaves first due to nitrogen mobility. Iron is a micronutrient essential for chlorophyll synthesis, and its deficiency causes interveinal chlorosis in younger leaves because iron is immobile in the phloem. The biological nitrogen fixation process by Rhizobium in root nodules of legumes involves the nitrogenase enzyme complex that converts atmospheric N2 to NH3, requiring anaerobic conditions maintained by leghemoglobin. Plant Growth and Development notes should cover the five major phytohormones: auxins (cell elongation, apical dominance), gibberellins (stem elongation, seed germination), cytokinins (cell division, delay senescence), abscisic acid (stomatal closure, dormancy), and ethylene (fruit ripening, abscission). Each hormone should be noted with its discovery experiment, site of synthesis, and physiological effects.
The light reaction pathway diagram is one of the most frequently tested figures in NEET.
Calculation questions asking total ATP from one glucose molecule appear regularly.
The location of deficiency symptoms depends on element mobility in the plant.
Hormone-function and discoverer matching questions are standard NEET fare.
