Biology Olympiad, Delhi
From the NSEB paper in November to the Indian team in July. Theory taught to IBO depth, past papers every week, the practical paper prepared as it is examined. In person at South Extension, live online anywhere in Delhi.
Delhi sits more NSEB candidates than almost any other city. Its schools are CBSE, so students arrive with exactly the NCERT base the first paper assumes, and its academically serious schools send students into the national olympiads every year. Yet the capital has no olympiad coaching of its own: the national chains sell a test series, and a Delhi student who clears NSEB is usually left to prepare for INBO from a textbook and a forum.
The gap between the two papers is the problem. NSEB is multiple choice and mostly recall. INBO gives the student an experiment, a dataset or a pedigree and asks for reasoning; IBO does the same at university depth and then adds a practical component that decides medals. A student can be excellent at NEET-style biology and have never once been asked to design a control.
This batch exists for that gap. It teaches from Campbell rather than NCERT, works past INBO and IBO papers every week in their real format, and treats the practical paper as syllabus. Delhi students take it in person at the South Extension centre or on the live stream, in the same cohort as olympiad students across India.
NSEB · Late November
National Standard Examination in Biology, run by IAPT. Delhi hosts many exam centres. A multiple-choice paper on the NCERT syllabus with a Campbell-level tail; the top few hundred nationally go through.
INBO · Late January or early February
Indian National Biology Olympiad, run by HBCSE. Longer, written, with data-interpretation and experimental-design questions. Around 300 students sit it; roughly 35 are called to camp.
Orientation-cum-Selection Camp · April to June, HBCSE Mumbai
Theory and practical sessions and tests at HBCSE. Four students are selected for the Indian team.
IBO · July
The International Biology Olympiad: two theory papers and a set of practical tasks over a week in the host country.
Dates follow the IAPT and HBCSE calendars and shift by a week or two each year; the registration guide carries the current ones.
Approximate shares from recent IBO theory papers. Plant physiology and ethology are where NCERT-trained students are thinnest, and where the batch spends extra weeks.
| Cell biology | ~25% |
| Animal anatomy and physiology | ~25% |
| Genetics and evolution | ~20% |
| Plant anatomy and physiology | ~15% |
| Ecology | ~10% |
| Ethology | ~5% |
| Biosystematics | ~5% |
In person at the South Extension centre, D 35, South Extension Part 2, 110049, 100 metres from South Extension metro on the Pink Line, open Mon–Sat: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM · Sun: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (online sessions available outside these hours). Live online in the same sessions for students in Dwarka, Rohini, Noida, Gurugram and beyond. Taught by Dr. Shekhar C. Singh, AIIMS New Delhi alumnus.

Three groups. Students who have cleared NSEB and are preparing for INBO or the HBCSE camp; students in Class 9 to 11 who want to start the olympiad track early, before the school syllabus fills the week; and NEET aspirants who want the depth that separates a 340 from a 360 in biology. The first group gets an intensive plan, the other two join the olympiad cohort.
Both, in the same cohort. The olympiad batch is taught live online for students across India, and Delhi students can attend the same sessions in person at the South Extension centre, D 35 South Extension Part 2, 100 metres from South Extension metro on the Pink Line. A student can switch between the room and the stream week by week.
NEET is NCERT recall under time. NSEB starts there and INBO and IBO leave it behind: the questions give data, a figure or an experiment and ask the student to reason from it, at Campbell Biology depth and beyond. The batch teaches from Campbell and the primary literature, and every week ends with past INBO and IBO questions worked under the real format.
The practical tasks are a large share of the IBO score and the part Indian students are least prepared for. The batch covers the practical paper as it is actually examined: reading and designing experiments, handling data, microscopy and dissection questions from past papers, and the statistics IBO expects. Hands-on laboratory training beyond that is done at the HBCSE camp, and we say so rather than promise a lab we do not run.
For NSEB in November, by the previous April at the latest; the syllabus is wide and the Campbell reading takes a year to do once. Students who have already cleared NSEB can join in December for an INBO-focused plan, and INBO qualifiers in February for the camp.
The NSEB and INBO programme is priced in rupees and the direct IBO programme separately; both are on the IBO preparation page and the pricing page. A free olympiad diagnostic and a demo class come first.
